Lotus leaf can be used as both food and medicine. We can use lotus leaf to assist treatment of Kidney Disease in diet.
Why can lotus leaf be used in diet therapy of Kidney Disease? Because flavonoid contained in lotus leaf is the scavenger of most oxygen radical. It can enhance the vitality of SOD(superoxide dismutase) and reduce the generation of MDA(lipid peroxide mda)and 0X-LDL(Oxidation low density lipoprotein). Flavonoid can also increase coronary flow and antagonize experimental myocardial infarction. Besides, flavonoid has obvious effect in coronary heart disease and hypertension. Flavonoid even plays an important role in decreasing diastolic pressure, preventing arrhythmia and cardiovascular disease.
Therefore, flavonoid in lotus leaf is a kind of valuable material. It can be used as bulk drug of angiocardiopathy and be used in health food. Now I want to introduce two kinds of lotus leaf food to you.
1. Porridge of lotus leaf
Things we need:
A piece of lotus leaf about 200g , polished round-gained rice (or rice) 100g, adequate amount of white sugar
Course:
Clear the rice with water, then put it in a pot with some water, and then heat them. Before the porridge is ready, cover the porridge with the lotus leaf,braise about 15 minutes. Uncover the lotus leaf reboil the porridge for a moment. Before we have it, put some white sugar on it. The taste of the porridge is umami. The porridge has certain curative effect in hyperlipidemia and hypertension.
We can also add some mung beans before boil the porridge, so it will also have the effect of nourishing the stomach.
2. Meat with lotus leaf
Things we need:
Pigskin 200g , a piece of lotus leaf 200g, sweet sauce, sauce and cooking wine , shallot, shredded ginger, rice, cassia, anise and pepper
Course:
Bake the pigskin till burned, and then soak it in hot water. Raze the burn skin and make the pigskin clear. Cut the pigskin into loafs of 5.5 *3cm, then put these loafs in a bowl, add some sweet sauce, sauce and cooking wine. Put shallot, shredded ginger and rice, cassia, anise and pepper into a pan, then fry them till a little burn. Then crush these materials and add some boiled water. Put the meat loafs into these materials and stir them together. Give the lotus leaf a quick-boil then cool it. Wrap the meat with little pieces of lotus leaf. And that’s done. This food has the effect of dissolving stasis and hemostasis.
