Patients can take more fruits and a little wheat-amylum noodles, oatmeal, biscuit, or another wheat-amylum desserts, at the same time take a little rice water or gruel.
Take high biological value and low protein diet: In oliguria period, Acute Renal Failure patients should supply 15 to 20 grams of diet with high biological value and low protein everyday. It can not only take care of patients’ discharge capacity in the period of renal insufficiency, but also can properly maintain patients’ nutrition need.
When there are symptoms like long-time oliguria, wide trauma, large-scale burns or much loss of protein, patients should be supplied with vegetarian diet according to their condition except high biological value and low protein diet. Protein intake can gradually increase as non protein nitrogen in blood decreases. High biological value protein should take up 1/2~1/3 of total protein, so patients can select food containing abundant amino acid, such as milk, egg, etc.
In oliguria period, patients should limit liquid intake so as to prevent acute pulmonary edema and dilutional hyponatremia that are caused by too much body fluid. Moisture content in food (rice and steamed bread) and water produced by its oxidation should be also calculated (fat produces much water, while protein and carbohydrate produce little water). Under the circumstances of having calculated the moisture intake, patients can eat various fresh fruits or vegetable juices in order to supply vitamins like vitamin C and inorganic salt.
Pay attention to the intake of sodium and potassium: Because Acute Renal Failure patients usually have edema which is easy to cause Hyperkalemia, they should adopt low-salt, non-salt or low-sodium diet respectively according to severity of edema, urination volume and the determining result of blood sodium. If blood potassium increases, patients can reduce potassium supply in diet appropriately lest increase of exogenous potassium may aggravate Hyperkalemia.
Due to various foods all have potassium, besides avoiding having the food with high potassium, methods like freezing, soaking in the water, discarding cooking liquor and so on can be adopted to reduce the potassium content.
Suitable food for patients
Milk, egg, lean meat, wheat-amylum noodles, cornmeal, biscuit, other wheat-amylum dessert, fruit juice, tea, green vegetables juice, fruit, vegetable, etc.
In oliguria period, patients can take dextrose, cane sugar, fresh lemon juice, etc. In diuresis period, patents can have various drinks such as fruit juices, tea, cocoa, green vegetable juice, etc.
Unsuitable food for patients:

According to the state of disease, limit the intake of eggs, diary products and lean meat etc. do not have food with rich fat and high-protein such as wine, coffee, hot pepper, etc.
